Cyberpunk 2077 Runs on the REDMAGIC 7S Pro

REDMAGIC 7S Pro x Cyberpunk 2077

Tom’s Guide recently shared that “Apple is taking mobile gaming seriously”, unpacking all the details about the new games that gamers can enjoy on the new flagship. This comes after Apple caused a stir among gamers when they revealed that the Apple iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max can run AAA games for console and PC natively. The list of titles includes fan favorites like Resident Evil and Assassins Creed, which can be expected on Apple early next year.

While the REDMAGIC family has always known that mobile gaming is very serious, could this announcement be the breakthrough mobile gamers have been waiting for? REDMAGIC patron and Discord Community member InfiniX took on the challenge of running one of the most challenging and demanding AAA games on the REDMAGIC, and while it may make you cringe to see just how slowly Cyberpunk 2077 runs on the REDMAGIC 7S Pro, the emulation still looks beautiful!

Cyberpunk 2077 is notoriously one of the toughest games to run on PC. Gamers who want to run it at high FPS with minimal lagging need a CPU with at least 3.4GHz clock speed and a high-end GPU. For pristine visuals, it’s also recommended that the game be run with 12GB of RAM, though a minimum of 8GB RAM is reported to be sufficient. These hardware requirements make Cyberpunk 2077 an expensive game to play outside of a console.

InfiniX played Cyberpunk 2077 on a REDMAGIC 7S Pro 18GB/512GB which has a CPU clock speed of 3.0GHz with the Cortex-X2. They ran it on the Box64Droid emulator with Turnip Zink A7XX at 720p, and the CPU/GPU clocks maxed out. Although the game only peaked at 5FPS, this combination did a better job of running the game than some laptops and low to mid-range PCs that don’t meet the minimum or recommended requirements.

Gamers and reviewers agree – the fact that the game even runs at all speaks to the full potential of gaming smartphones. The comments section in the video has flooded with gamers who agree that this is a major stepping stone for mobile gaming, which brings us back to the question at hand. Is it time for game developers to take mobile gaming more seriously?

The Sky Is the Limit for Mobile Gaming

In response to the announcement of the powerful A17 bionic chip that will reportedly support AAA games, Glen Fox of Droid Gamers wonders if this will prompt Android developers to up their offering. Based on how REDMAGIC performed with a 3.0 GHz CPU speed, we're also curious to find out how Cyberpunk would play out with the 3.3 GHz Cortex-X and the more powerful Snapdragon in the REDMAGIC 8S Pro which theoretically fall just below the game's requirements.

The device is already capable of reaching maximum FPS on inclusive mobile games, so we have no doubt that once game developers come on board with making more games playable, we’ll be up for the challenge. What we know for sure is that AAA game developers are finally investing in making their games more accessible to mobile gamers, and that’s a step in the right direction for everyone.

The REDMAGIC 8 Series runs games like Shadow of Death and Minecraft at 120 FPS, and both the REDMAGIC 8 Series and 7 Series can clock 90 FPS on PUBG Mobile. We think it’s time for more game developers to get on par with what gaming smartphones can offer.
